One of the biggest questions going into this shortened season is how Henrik Lundqvist will be used. Last year he was the most rested in his entire career with the Rangers and his numbers reflected that. With a more compact season this year, it’s important he stays very fresh throughout.
This 48 game schedule will feature tons of back to back games and a lot of three games in four nights type deals. This means Marty Biron is going to have to play quite a bit throughout the year. I don’t know how fit Lundqvist is for this season and I fear if the team gives him too much too soon, he could burn out by the end of the year.
I’m going to say Lundqvist will probably end up playing 34-38 games this season. Anything more than that I think is somewhat insane given how close all these games are to eachother. You want your best player to be on the ice as much as possible, but the real prize is won in the playoffs. 36 starts give or take a few is a good number for King Henrik.
