Time For Mashinter To Step Up

Sorry for the lack of a picture on this article. I can’t seem to get that feature to work at the moment. Anyway, let’s get to the point.

Brandon Mashinter is 6’4 224 pounds according to his bio on Hockey Database. Mashinter will have to play to his size if he wants to become a mainstay on the Rangers roster. They need him to try fill the hole that they lost in Prust. With Asham out of the lineup at the moment, he is the biggest physical presence on the Rangers.

Mashinter won’t stay in the NHL long term because of the goals he’ll score. He’s going to have to use his fists a bit (he has 7 fights in the AHL this season), and he’s going to have to be physical and stand up for his teammates. Has Mashinter not been physical? No. But he’s not being noticeable doing it either. He’s going to have to work harder to make this team full time and that’s the reality.

I really hope Mashinter pans out as solution to the Rangers lack of physicality. I really don’t want to see Sather sign another Brashear or trade for John Scott just because the current Rangers team can’t fight for themselves. Those guys are a waste of space in the lineup, and will hinder the Rangers going forward.

Let’s see how the Rangers respond in tonight’s game after being called out for being “soft” last game by most of the hockey media.
