Rangers Race To Play The Southeast Division In Playoffs

The race is on in the Eastern Conference to play the winner in of the Southeast division.  Lets be honest, does anyone really want to play the Bruins, Canadians, or the Penguins in the first round of the playoffs?  I didn’t think so.  The Bruins are a tough team to play no matter what building you are in.  They are beatable but will beat you up in the process.  The Canadians, well, the house of horrors says it all.  The Rangers fly to Montreal and forget how to play hockey.  The Penguins are the Penguins and can beat anyone on any given night.  Crosby has reported no concussion like symptoms and will no doubt be back in the line up for the playoffs.

What that leaves us hoping for is to play the Jets, Capitals, Lightning, and the Hurricanes.  The division is wide open and could go to just about anyone.  Florida is still technically in the hunt but needs a miracle.    The whole division needs to give it there all every night which may lead to a mental and physical break down.  What more could you ask for in the first round when you are the low seed?

In order for the Rangers to get to that 6th spot, they need to continue to play like they did last night against the Penguins.  They also need some help.  Currently, Ottawa and Toronto occupy the 5th and 6th spots.   Rangers are currently 5 points behind both teams in 7th place, and all 3 have 12 games left to play.  Ottawa is on a 2 game losing streak and Toronto is on a 3 game winning streak.  5 points just may be to much to make up in a 12 game stretch.  Unless Ottawa or Toronto falls on their face, the Rangers are currently set to play Montreal or Boston.

All of this talk is of course pointless if the Rangers can’t keep up the play they are currently putting on the Ice.  I have faith in the new guys and the heart they bring to this team.  Hopefully, we will be watching Rangers hockey into June.
