I think this is a concensious pick as everyone’s favorite trade target, and favorite Ranger to move out of New York. While he has yet to live up to any of the expectations that were brought forth to him after he was drafted in the 2008 draft (20 overall).

There was a pretty solid rookie season, which followed with him getting demoted to the AHL Affiliate to help him find his game, he hasn’t been the same player since.

Constant inconsistent string of games, where it looks like he’s finally turned the corner, and finally decided he could be a top four defenseman, turned into games that it didn’t seem he was NHL ready, making rookie mistakes, not staying in position, looking lost.

It could have a combination of him playing in New York, and the constant pressure of him needing to perform on a consistent basis, that has allowed his game to deflate. And if that’s the case, he needs to get out of New York. Not only for the Rangers, but for him as well.

Potential of Del Zotto Getting Traded: Medium to High
Compensation: High Draft Picks, High-Level Prospect

Let’s see if I understand; Del Zotto is a complete failure (although he’s lead all Rangers Dmen in points 3 of the last 4 years), yet the we can expect ‘high draft picks’ or high level prospect’ in return. Those other teams sure don’t know hockey like you do.

He can put up points but he’s a poor defenseman, other teams can see his potential, he still has a year or two to improve or else he’ll most likely be moved.

I agree, but this idea that he’s the worst defenseman ever is not really fair. After all, he was a plus 20 in 2011-12. I think AV’s style suits his game better than Tort’s did. He needs to really step-up in 2013-14. And I expect him to do so.
