I would like to start out, by saying whoever started this rumor should get their right to write taken away from them.

But, at the same time I can understand where they are coming from, and might see this as a way to move on, and not take that risk if the organization feels he’s not going to ever be able to perform the way he once was, and is willing to move on and start a new.

Yet, I don’t see this happening. Staal is the leader of that defense, as you saw last season when he went down that core was not the same. Daniel Girardi could not pick up the slack, and could not handle the extra responsibilities as a leader of the defense. Which I felt was sad in a way, because I expected Girardi to do well for the Rangers. Yet, he disappointed.

The Rangers could trade Staal as a way to free up cap space, but I don’t think you trade away your best defenseman for almost nothing. But, that won’t happen. Staal (12, 2005 Draft) will be back ready to go for the Rangers next season, as he has another season with something more to prove. Another Masterdon trophy nominee awaits him.

Plus the only team I see him getting traded to is Carolina, but that won’t happen.

Let’s see if I understand; Del Zotto is a complete failure (although he’s lead all Rangers Dmen in points 3 of the last 4 years), yet the we can expect ‘high draft picks’ or high level prospect’ in return. Those other teams sure don’t know hockey like you do.

He can put up points but he’s a poor defenseman, other teams can see his potential, he still has a year or two to improve or else he’ll most likely be moved.

I agree, but this idea that he’s the worst defenseman ever is not really fair. After all, he was a plus 20 in 2011-12. I think AV’s style suits his game better than Tort’s did. He needs to really step-up in 2013-14. And I expect him to do so.
