In a move that could only be seen as another reason for the Rangers to acquire more depth on defense, the Rangers have traded oft-used forward, Kris Newbury to the Flyers for defenseman Danny Syvert.
Syvert was drafted 81 overall in the 2005 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. In 59 NHL contests over the course of 7 seasons with the Flyers, Oilers and the Ducks he has accumulated 7 points (3G, 4A), and 30 penalty minutes. He has seen action in 10 playoff games, not getting a single point in any of the contests.
Newbury was rarely used by the Rangers during the course of his career, drafted 139 overall in the 2002 NHL draft by the San Jose Sharks. During his 72 games of NHL experience with the Maple Leafs, Red Wings and Rangers he has accumulated 9 points (4G, 5A) with 132 penalty minutes. He appeared in 3 games during this years playoffs, seeing minimum fourth line time, and getting 2 minutes of penalty minutes.
