Well, so much for a quiet Fourth of July. Rumors began to swirl around the twittersphere earlier today that the Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars were on the phone talking about a potential trade for stud forward Tyler Seguin. It has just been confirmed by Pierre LeBrun that Loui Eriksson decided a few hours ago to waive his no trade clause.
All signs seems to be pointing towards this trade going through. All we know right now is that Tyler Seguin and it looks like Rich Peverley will be traded in return for Loui Eriksson. A HUGE trade to say the least. But, how is the imminent trade going to affect each team? Let’s take a look.
The Effect On Boston
It has been rumored that some off-ice issues with Seguin have influenced the trade. I think that this deal will negatively impact Boston. Don’t get me wrong, Eriksson is a great player and has plenty of potential, but to trade away a 21 year old forward who still has plenty of quality years left? It just doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve always liked Seguin, he has great speed and skill and he can create offensive opportunities in an instant. It just doesn’t make any logical sense to trade away a forward who has such potential and can really make a difference in this league.
The Effect On Dallas
In my opinion, I think that Dallas is getting the better end of this deal. As far as we know, Rich Peverley is also included in the deal. So the Stars are getting two big names in return for just Eriksson. Seguin is going to make a huge difference on Dallas’ team. He is going to improve their offense greatly, and he might be able to get them in the running for a playoff birth.
Overall, this is a huge trade for both teams. It really came as a shock to me. Now the Bruins have lost Nathan Horton and Tyler Seguin. Two forwards who played pivotal roles on their Stanley Cup run this season. Stay tuned to Twitter for more information on the trade.
