We are getting close and closer to the start of training camp, the start of the first preseason game, as well as the start of the regular season. News is coming fewer and farther between as the off season gets into the dog days of summer.

While we here at Blueline Station are eager for the start of the regular season, and excited to see what the Rangers are going to bring this season, we’re also eager for the NHL as a whole to start once again. Records were broken in terms of television viewers, and it’s only going to increase. Expect the NHL to capitalize on its viewership, and its contract with NBC Sports because as much as we hate the network, they have really helped it capitalize and gain publicity.

In Ranger land, we have the arbitration hearing between the team and Mats Zuccarello and the team on July 31. Remember folks, if the contact is below $3 million, the team has to take the team, anything over $3 million, they can simply walk away from it. I can honestly expect to see it anywhere between $1.5-$2 million. As for the term of the deal, it’d be a year deal. Another year for Zucc to prove himself, and to see him play in a different style. I think he’s going to be another player that will shine in Vigneault’s system.

In other Ranger news Sam McCraig of Yahoo Sports said that Henrik Lundqvist is the second best goalie in the current NHL, placing him right behind… Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings. Rounding out the top four is Pekka Renne and Tuukka Rask.

Meanwhile on Twitter…
