Two for Roughing: NHL News and Notes [August 27, 2013]

Looks like I have some news!

As I touched on earlier today, Adam Henrique of the Devils resigned for 6 years $24 million. While, in many Devils eyes, it’s a really good signing, and they might be correct, he has yet to prove himself worthy of a contract that size. Better yet, as I also pointed out, many Ranger fans are wondering if Derek Stepan is now going to demand a similar contract, which he hasn’t stated either way. Maybe I’m still bitter to what he did to the Rangers during game 6 of the 2012 Conference Finals in overtime, as I should be. But, no Zach Parise, and now no Ilya Kovalchuk, it means that he’s going to have to generate the chances himself, A LOT more.

Team USA started its training camp yesterday, and news of Ryan Callahan attending camp had many Ranger fans happy. Well, wait and hold your breath as he still has no timetable on his return. He’ll continue skating and shooting, but it all comes down to when he will be able to take contact which could be in a few weeks, if not months. But, he sees himself out for the Rangers regular season opener October 3, against the Coyotes.
