As the temperature continues to drop and the seasons change once again, hockey is ALMOST back in full swing. Training camps have begun and the preseason gets started tonight when the Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets will face-off north of the border, and the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames will have split squad games.
After last year’s debacle by the New York Rangers, failing to make it to the Eastern Conference Final for the second straight year, expectations inside the fanbase for 2013-14 still seem pretty high. With the additions of Benoit Pouliot, Dominic Moore, and perhaps some rookies who might make the team out of training camp, this Rangers squad will have the most depth out of any previous NYR team.
Let’s look at some quick hits around the league and check-up on the latest happenings:
- St.Louis Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo has agreed to a seven year deal worth 45.5 million dollars.
- It was reported yesterday that Derek Stepan and his agent are willing to discuss terms on a possible bridge deal for the 23 year old forward.
- Martin Biron rejoins the Rangers in camp after sitting out due to personal issues.
- 41 year old veteran forward Jaromir Jagr continues to miss Devils camp due to an issue with his hamstring.
