With the Rangers enjoying their team bonding up in Western Canada, as Derek Stepan is along mulling over if its really worth it to continue the holdout, the Rangers head into Calgary seeking their second preseason victory of the year. The Flames, they continue their preseason, heading into their first full season without both Miikka Kiprusoff, and Jarome Iginla.
The Rangers while still waiting for Derek Stepan to return, have one thing to really look forward to: the second games for Oscar Lindberg, Jasper Fast and Danny Kristo. Now the three will not all skate together, but it’ll be interesting to see what exactly the three can bring in their second preseason game as individuals as they continue the competition to make the opening night roster, as both Carl Hagelin, and captain Ryan Callahan are still expected to miss some time, and with the off chance Derek Stepan does miss opening night, a third forward spot becomes readily available. And these three, and others are surely fighting for their spots.
Another thing to note is if Brian Boyle starts showing his worth more around the wing, as its seemingly possible with the Rangers stacked at the centerman position, Boyle being more versatile and needed at the wing. But, the wing is also another position that is in some sort of log jam, at least for the top six, so he may see some bottom six minutes once Stepan returns.
Henrik Lundqvist will start, and play the entire game, as we all know he is sure to lock up the starting job once the regular season starts in Phoenix. Lundqvist will see at least one more game of action, as he’ll be the starter (and once again play the full game), against Vancouver. Kari Ramo will get the start for Calgary.
