Get your sticks and skates ready folks, the NHL season is finally here and the festivities kick off on Tuesday, October 1. 3 games are on tap for that night; Toronto Maple Leafs v.s. Montreal Canadiens (7 pm), Washington Capitals v.s. Chicago Blackhawks (8 pm) and the Winnipeg Jets v.s. the Edmonton Oilers (10 pm). 3 Metropolitan Division teams get going on Thursday; the New Jersey Devils, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers. Hockey is back, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. With that taken care of, let’s look at some quick hits occurring around the league:
- Alain Vigneault and the Rangers announced their roster cuts today, which included Chris Kreider, Oscar Lindberg, Marek Hrivik, Darroll Powe, Brandon Mashinter, Stu Bickel and Conor Allen who all got sent down to the AHL. Powe, Mashinter and Bickel must all clear waivers before being sent down.
- Maple Leafs defenseman John-Michael Liles has been designated to waivers according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie and Pierre LeBrun.
- Phoenix Coyotes forward Paul Bissonnette had his suspension reduced from 10 games to 3 games, announced yesterday.
- Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin carries the Olympic Torch.
Even though I didn’t see him play in the preseason, I’m kinda surprised Kreider didn’t make the Rangers this year. First call up likely #NYR
