Today, the New York Rangers sent down forward Darroll Powe and goaltender Jason Missiaen to the AHL’s Hartford Wolfpack. In turn, the team has recalled forwards Chris Kreider, Brandon Mashinter and goalie Cam Talbot.
I can’t say I’m surprised Kreider was recalled, gonna be another hectic year for him, huh? One thing this line up lacks, especially without Rick Nash, Ryan Callahan and Carl Hagelin to help out is speed and scoring. Now, Kreider is not going to be the answer to all of our problems, but he will help us out, the kid has great speed and can score when put with the right people. Mashinter is going to help us in a way we desperately need, some grit. If you haven’t noticed the Rangers have been getting bullied up and down the ice in most of the games they’ve played and we need at least one person who’s willing to get in between and step up for this team. Lastly, Cam Talbot has been recalled, not really much of a shocker, the Rangers need a useable backup and Talbot is the closest thing we’ve got to that. Signs from Alain Vigneault show that Talbot may be getting a start sooner than later. The call-ups, particularly those of Kreider and Mashinter should help the team.
P.S. former Ranger goaltender Martin Biron retired today, so the Rangers need to start shopping around for a backup goaltender, or look into seriously improving Cam Talbot, if they want someone to be a sufficient backup for Henrik Lundqvist.
