After skating on the ice, in new skates prior to this mornings practice, it was reported that Henrik Lundqvist would be day to day with a minor nagging issue, setting the Rangers fanbase on Twitter in a code red alert that scared many to even open Twitter to see today’s reactions from its fanbase.
Alain Vigneault when commenting on the situation stated that there is a 50/50 chance that Lundqvist will not start against the Philadelphia Flyers, and that recent call up Cam Talbot may get the start against Philadelphia. Vigneault also stated that its something that is nagging with Lundqvist, but he hopes to nip it in the bud, and fast.
Captain Ryan Callahan was in the building, and doing off ice conditioning drills. He’s still another 2-3 weeks from coming back, but still needs to be in game shape so he can return with some ease. Still is a big hole to fill, but hopefully recent callup Chris Kreider can fill in those shoes.
Kreider stayed at the LW for his second straight day with linemates Derek Stepan and Brad Richards, as AV stated yesterday, he’s a player that needs to be in the top six, but has to prove himself. Shuffling between the third and fourth lines were Jesper Fast who skated today on the third, after being an extra yesterday, and Mats Zuccarello who dropped all the way to the fourth line. Someone isn’t too happy with his play.
Lines today looked like this (credit: Pat Leonard):
Chris Kreider – Derek Stepan – Brad Richards
Benoit Pouliot – Derek Brassard – JT Miller
Taylor Pyatt – Brian Boyle – Jesper Fast
Brandon Mashinter/Mats Zuccarello – Dominic Moore – Derek Dorsett
Ryan McDonagh – Dan Girardi
Marc Staal – Anton Stralman
Michael Del Zotto – John Moore
Vigneault speaking on the Rangers struggles had this to say (credit: Steve Zipay):
My teams compete. My teams play hard, and are hard to play against. We haven’t been that way, and it’s my responsibility to change that.
Rangers have another day of practice tomorrow before heading to Philadelphia to play the Flyers on Thursday. Any update on Lundqvist you’ll find out here.
