Last night, the Anaheim Ducks finished up their eight game road trip by visiting New York to play the Rangers. It was a solid effort put forth by the Blueshirts but they ultimately came up short and dropped two points at home, losing by a score of 2-1.
The Ducks had a 2-0 lead early off two horrid mistakes by Derick Brassard and Brad Richards, those giveaways would cost the Rangers a win. Other than that, in my opinion, the Rangers looked pretty good. In the second period, they were able to get back to their forecheck and sustain offensive zone pressure, plus defenseman Michael Del Zotto scored his first goal of the young season. Frederik Andersen stood strong for Anaheim between the pipes, as he made some tremendous saves that were able to give the Ducks their 12th win of the season and their 5th win on their long road trip.
There are very few things that are bad when talking about this loss. New York ran into a hot team that is playing far better hockey. The scoreline could have been much worse but the Rangers stood strong and played well against a tough team.
Overall, the Rangers just came up short and were that close to snatching two points from one of the West’s more dominant teams. Now, New York must turn their attention to the Pittsburgh Penguins, who come into town tomorrow night. The Pens have given the Rangers trouble in the past, but with Henrik Lundqvist in net anything is possible. After playing the Penguins, the Rangers will head out to Columbus to play the Blue Jackets, expect backup Cam Talbot to start that game, but nothing is confirmed just yet.
