Another chapter in the battle of the Hudson commences tonight as the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils face off, in their second of five contests this season. The first matchup, a 4-0 win for the team across the river, was a different time for the Rangers. A team struggling to find themselves, struggling to find out who exactly they were.
Fast forward 2 week later, and this team looks completely different. Scoring at a higher rate, (fewer) defensive mistakes and a return of the dominate Henrik Lundqvist, the Rangers are looking to win their fourth straight and rack up all the points they can as another test for the team unfolds.
The Devils, will start sure fire Hall of Fame goaltender, and Ranger fans public enemy number 1 Martin Brodeur. Brodeur famous for criticizing Lundqvist’s pad size, also sat out the teams final game of the regular season last year, due to the team being mathematically out of the playoffs.
One thing is for sure, this team has struggled finding a goal go to the back of the net on a consistent basis. Coming off a 5-0 win over Nashville on Sunday, many feel that they will not score that many, and probably won’t against the Rangers and Lundqvist.
The Rangers on the other hand need to stay aggressive, after Sunday’s victory against the Florida Panthers, while disappointing, did show that there are still a few kinks in the armor and that they are really missing a certain goal scorer.
Taylor Pyatt will miss his second straight game after getting a high hit Thursday against Columbus. He is expected to be out for a period of time as he is dealing with concussion related issues. Brandon Mashinter will play for the injured Pyatt. The Rangers do expect Dominic Moore to return to the lineup possibly Saturday in Montreal.
In more bright news, that goal scorer I was talking about is expected to skate during Rangers practice tomorrow. You know him as Rick Nash. Who is getting a lashing currently on Twitter. But hey, whatever.
Coverage begins at 6:30 pm on MSG.
