Tonight, the New York Rangers visited the Nashville Predators on their second stop during their current five-game road trip. Cam Talbot got the start in goal as he looked to keep his consistent play going.
The Rangers came out and started strong as they generated offense and were able to sustain their forecheck. As the period rolled on, Nashville slowly found their game and started to gain their own chances.
It was an even period and both teams were sound defensively. Talbot made some great saves that kept the game scoreless, as did Marek Mazanec for the Preds.
The period ended scoreless and the Rangers up on shots 7-5.
The period began and both teams looked to be playing a conservative style and not giving up much on either end.
That continued until New York finally broke through and scored the first goal of the game. Alain Vigneault has been preaching for his defense to contribute offensively and that’s what he got on this goal. With seven minutes left to play, defenseman Dan Girardi took a shot from the point which was deflected by Ryan McDonagh. It turned out to be a beautiful play and AV got what he wanted as both defensemen contributed to the goal.
Talbot continued to remain strong for the Rangers and they took a 1-0 lead into the third period.
The Rangers were able to carry over their good play from the second and transform it into solid hockey. They shut down the Predators in the neutral zone, not giving them much to accomplish, and New York widened their lead when Derek Stepan capped off a great pass from Mats Zuccarello to make it a 2-0 lead.
That would be all they needed as the Rangers clamped down and shut out the Predators 2-0.
This is Talbot ‘s second shutout in a row and continues to look strong when relieving the duties of Henrik Lundqvist.
The Rangers have now won two in a row and visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night.
