Break Out: Rangers vs Jets

What: New York Rangers vs Winnipeg Jets

When: Puck drops at 7:00pm

Tonight the Rangers will face the Jets at MSG. The Rangers are 14-13-0 for 28 points on the season; good enough for 3rd place in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers are 5-5-0 in home games this season with 17 goals against and 25 goals scored. The Rangers’ top producers at home are Chris Kreider, with four goals for 12 points in 10 games and Mats Zuccarello with 1 goal for 8 points in 10 games. Although he has only played in 2 home games this season, Rick Nash has posted 1 goal for 3 points. Derek Stepan, Ryan McDonagh, Brad Richards, Carl Hageln, and Michael Del Zotto are all holding strong with stats of a half point per game, at home, or better. The top line coming out of the last game was Kreider/Stepan/Nash; with a total of 4 goals and 4 assists. This included Kreider’s first career hat trick. If this line can keep up their production, the possibilities are endless for a score in this game. With only 1 start and the Garden this year, Cameron Talbot has 2 goals against average and .946 save percentage. He’s the hot goalie now and as we all know, you play the hot glove til it cools off.

The Jets are presently 12-12-4 with 28 points, which is last place in the Central Division. On the road, the Jets are 5-6-1 having scored 24 goals and allowing 29 goals. This will be the 4th straight road game for the Jets, whose top producers have been Dustin Byfuglien (pronounced Bufflin) with 1 goal for 10 points in 12 games and Bryan Little with 5 goals for 9 points in 12 games. It seems as though the Jets will be without Evander Kane; he left their last game with a lower body injury, which he has battled off and on over the last couple months. If the Rangers face Ondrej Pavelec, they are looking to try and out work his 2.18 goals against average and .933 save percentage. Al Montoya has 3.02 goals against average and a .904 save percentage.

Winnipeg isn’t known for fighting, but they have racked up the penalty minutes. If the Rangers can keep their game clean they should see quite a bit of practice time for their power play.
