Tonight the New York Rangers travel to the Toronto Maple Leafs
Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm
After a disappointing showing against the Penguins, the Rangers are back on the ice tonight to face the Leafs; sans Derek Dorsett. J.T. Miller is the only extra forward the team has to call up at this point; could the team regret waiving Taylor Pyatt so soon? Kudos to Dorsett for remaining on the ice to finish his shift with a broken tibia, take that Gregory Campbell. Without Dorsett, the fourth line will have to be overhauled; there isn’t a player in the lineup who can just step into his slot. Who knows what we might see on the ice tonight, lets hope it’s good. The Rangers are still hovering the .500 mark and trying to get a decent win streak together so the team can get into playoff contention. His Goal last night gave Mats Zuccarello 10 to tie Chris Kreider for the team lead. Zuccarello also added an assist on the Ryan McDonagh goal to give him a toal of 30 points thus far; three above former leader Brad Richards. Cam Talbot returns to the net tonight after having recent success against the Leafs. Talbot is looking to hold onto his 1.72 goals against average and .936 save percentage. His last game against the Leafs was his first NHL shutout, hopefully Talbot can get it done in regulation tonight! Top three players in hits remain Dan Girardi, Kreider, and Brian Boyle; while Girardi and McDonagh continue to be separated from the rest of the team for blocks.
The Leafs confirmed Jonathan Bernier in goal for tonight. His 2.41 goals against average and .091 save percentage aren’t quite as strong as Talbot’s numbers but the Leafs have managed to keep themselves in the wild card hunt. The Leafs are 21-16-5 with 47 points and are fourth in the Atlantic Division. Phil Kessel leads his team with 20 goals for 38 points, while James van Riemsdyk follows with 15 goals for 30 points. Dave Bolland remains out of the Toronto line-up and Joffrey Lupul will be in after only receiving a fine for his cross check on the Wings’ Patrick Eaves. The Rangers will also have to deal with Dion Phaneuf and Peter Holland. Without Dorsett on the ice the Leafs are likely to try and out muscle the Rangers or taunt them without any worry of retaliation. Kreider and Boyle will be called upon for their size and ability to finish checks. Dom Moore will also need to play his grit game and be ready for whatever comes his way. If the Rangers can stay out of the box and keep the Leafs in there, the game could be very tilted in the Rangers’ favor.
As always when the Rangers play the Leafs, lets win this one for Michael Sauer!
