Hello fellow New York Rangers Fans!!! My name is Allison and I’m the newest writer for Blue Line Station!!! I’m sure many of you know me from my twitter, and those of you that don’t feel free to follow me on twitter at @Princess_In_NY!
I first got into hockey when I was young, about the age of 7, because my dad signed me up to play youth hockey. I played hockey as a Tyke up until I was 12 or 13 when I quit hockey to be able to play indoor soccer. In retrospect, I wish I hadn’t dropped hockey, but at the time I just wanted to fit in with the cool kids in middle school.
While I was playing hockey I usually played wing, I shot left, and as I got older I moved to defense. As a girl, playing hockey on an all boys team, I never got the puck a lot and when I did, I didn’t do much with it, which was part of why I quit. I loved being on the ice though, and that is something that has never changed to this day.
I got back into hockey when I was in college, and because I’m a born and raised New Yorker, it was only appropriate that I followed the New York Rangers. It the last three years I’ve started to follow the New York Rangers more and more, and as of this season I have yet to miss a Rangers hockey game, even without having Madison Square Garden over the winter break while I was in North Carolina. I have been told I have a serious case of FOMOH, or Fear of Missing out on Hockey.
My favorite player currently on the Rangers’ team would have to be Ryan Callahan; and if you follow me on twitter I’m sure you are well aware of that by now. I also am a huge Henrik Lundqvist and Marc Staal fan, along with Dan Girardi, whom I would love to meet one day (and give him my number!) I have a huge love for Wayne Gretzky and can remember watching his retirement ceremony with my dad when I was young. Of course, I love all the Rangers’ players and have a true love for the game of hockey.
I’ve amassed a large amount of Rangers paraphernalia this year alone, and I honestly cannot have enough Rangers items. I just started to collect hockey cards, and thanks to my dad have some really rare rookie cards already. I have been to a few games at Madison Square Garden this year, I love the renovations! I soon hope to be a season ticket holder; when I get a job.
Some random information about me quickly before I discuss my role on the site: my favorite color is pink, I grew up in a family with six sisters, and I played soccer, hockey, softball, volleyball and basketball. I don’t follow other sports much, and the only other sport I am remotely interest in is college basketball (GO CUSE!) I always root for New York teams, and would love to one day work for the New York Rangers in any way possible.
On Blue Line Station I will be writing a lot about the basics of hockey for those who are new to the sport, about dating hockey fans, answering any questions people have about hockey or rules (Using #AskAllison) and other miscellaneous articles here and there. As I said, feel free to follow me on twitter and use the hash tag #AskAllison to send in questions you want answered! I look forward to more posts!!
