Tonight the New York Rangers host the Detroit Red Wings in an Original 6 match up at Madison Square Garden.
Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
The Rangers are looking to bounce back from their disheartening loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night. Presently, 24-21-3 the Rangers are in fourth place of the Metropolitan Division with 51 points. Fourth place isn’t a bad spot right now as the second place Washington Capitals only have 52 points. As far as points and standings on the team, Brad Richards maintains the points lead with 12 goals for 35 points. His goal against the Lightning tied Richards with Chris Kreider for the most goals on the team. Mats Zuccarello is staying close with 11 goals for 33 points. There are four players who have between 25 and 27 points. Kreider has 12 goals for 27 points while Derek Stepan has 7 goals for 27 points. Ryan McDonagh has 7 goals for 26 points followed by Derrick Brassard with 8 goals for 25 points. Kreider is still chasing Dan Girardi for the lead in hits. Girardi has 115 while Kreider now has 105 hits. Close behind are Brian Boyle with 95 hits and Ryan Callahan with 92 hits. The sacrificial lambs remain Girardi with 85 blocka dn McDonagh with 80 blocks; no one else is even close. Be ready to see Henrik Lundqvist in net once again tonight. Lundqvist has worked his goals against average down to 2.66 and his save percentage up to .911 after such a slow start to the season.
Jimmy Howard returns to the Detroit crease tonight. Howard was dealing with a hip flexor injury. Howard holds a record of 8-10-8 and has noticably struggled this season. Despite his struggles, Howard was named to the Team USA roster; making tonight a showdown of Olympic proportions. Howard’s goals against average are 2.67 and his save percentage is .913; very similar to those of Lundqvist. The Red Wings are 20-16-10 for a total of 50 points. and are fifth in the Atlantic Division. The Red Wings are lead in points by Henrik Zetterberg’s 14 goals for 36 points. Pavel Datsyuk adds 15 goals for 32 points. Daniel Alfredsson will be out of the lineup tonight due to back spasms. Datsyuk will also be out due to a groin injury. Also missing from tonight’s lineup will be Darren Helm, Tomas Tatar, and Johan Franzen. given the names missing tonight, this game should be very interesting. If the Rangers start out playing as hard as they have been since December 29th, there is no reason they shouldn’t end ip with two points tonight.
