Today the New York Rangers practiced at Yankee Stadium to prepare for tomorrow’s Stadium Series game against the New Jersey Devils. It was a day for players and their families to enjoy together; as well as a handful of fans who braved the cold, and the snow, to see the Rangers take the ice.
Our very own Brandon Matassa was at the Stadium with his friends. He spent the day standing near the families of Daniel Carcillo, Dan Girardi, and Henrik Lundqvist. Out of respect for the families, the fans just enjoyed the environment in close proximity while giving the families personal space. Brandon did tell me Charlize Lundqvist is adorable and both of the Girardi children were present. When I asked Brandon about the overall feel of the Stadium set up and the environment he said, “Yankee Stadium looks phenomenal. The ice looks flawless and the players looked thrilled to be there. Standing next to their families all day, [I could see] they had a great time too. You could see the smiles on all the faces throughout the whole thing. The snow added a perfect effect to it and the whole thing just felt surreal.”
Brandon also told me about an interesting event involving Mats Zuccarello and Benoit Pouliot. Evidently, Pouliot was joking around with Zuccarello by blocking him from tossing a puck over the glass to fans. Zuccarello went back afterwards and tossed the puck to Brandon’s friend Nick.
Here are some of the awesome shots Brandon was able to take while he was at the Stadium. Enjoy our little photo album and let us know if you have any pictures from today you’d like to share.
