New York Rangers Blueshirts Daily: 2/24/14

Welcome back to NHL mode Rangers fans. The Olympic Games are over and we are set for the backside of the NHL season. The trade window is open again and we are right back where we were before the break. Let’s get caught up on everything.

Ryan Callahan was in Sochi but his agent remained states side. No agreement was reached regarding his contract extension. Reports started to circulate involving Callahan and Martin St. Louis of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Boomer Esiason, former New York Jets Quarterback, alluded to something big happening via twitter yesterday and he delivered today. Here is how it unfolded. New York Rangers would by far be the winners in this trade but if St. Louis is serious about leaving, Tampa’s hands are tied.

With Mats Zuccarello being out with a hand injury and Derek Dorsett looking to return this week, pending medical clearance, the Rangers are looking for the roster to balance itself out. Reports from yesterday have Marc Staal suffering back spasms. If Staal ends up missing games as a result of the spasms, the Rangers will be forced to either play Justin Falk or call up another defenseman. Falk has been a healthy scratch most of the season and hasn’t played a game since 29 December 2013 and has only appeared in 20 games total this season.

Defenseman Dan Girardi also has a contract negotiation going stale. Reports are citing term as the reason the deal has failed to progress. Girardi is widely believed to be resigned but the deadline is rapidly approaching. Here is a look at what outside eyes see about the upcoming trade deadline.

Now that we are back to local business let’s get things rolling and let’s hope the guys can keep the momentum they had before the break. Let’s go Rangers!
