Rangers Roundup: 3/1/14

Good morning New York Rangers’ fans!!!! It’s game day again!!! The Rangers face the Philadelphia Flyers today, in what is sure to be a physical game.

The biggest news of the day yesterday is the Dan Girardi extension! He’s locked in and so we know our top pairing defensemen are here to stay! We knew they were close and we knew Girardi wanted to stay. It’s really not a bad contract when you think about it. Sure, Girardi is 29, that’s not the same as forwards. Defensemen play longer and with the minutes he is logging, Girardi shouldn’t end up out of shape. Glen Sather‘s words were very powerful in the presser. On the surface they were positive and supportive of Girardi, looking deeper they were a message to another unsigned player on the team; guess who. Here’s the official tweet:

Here is a brief look at tonight’s matchup with the Flyers and other goings on with the team. Pat Leonard always does a great job rounding things up for readers.

Here is a gem from the New York Rangers Blog about the Ryan Callahan/Martin St.Louis trade rumors. I will warn you there is some very strong language in the video; ok it’s straight up swearing left and right. What do you expect from Phil Esposito though?

In other amazing news, Mats Zuccarello was on the ice yesterday taking part in practice. It was announced he would be out for three to four weeks dealing with his hand injury. This looks rather promising though.

Who isn’t excited to see Zuccarello skating?

Ok, there’s your morning round-up of news and links. Enjoy your day and let’s get ready to clip the Flyers’ wings!
