After the last few games, The Rangers have been very painful to watch and seem to be playing themselves out of a playoff spot. Granted, we have time before the playoffs begin but I believe we need a crucial member back on the bench, that player being Mats Zuccarello. Besides trade rumors swirling around Ryan Callahan, there has been a decent amount of talk surrounding Olympian Mats Zuccarello who suffered an injury during Olympic play for his home country a few weeks ago.
Most of us fans already know that Zuccarello suffered a broken hand while playing for Norway in the Olympics. This definitely has drummed up the question; will this seriously hinder the momentum and performance of our teams point leader on the New York Rangers? Personally, I don’t think that it will at all, but I’m crossing my fingers.
He’s the type of guy that’s going to do everything that it takes to get better. He is a hardworking asset to the team and I don’t think he is the type of player to want to sit on the sidelines and watch his team continue to push for a playoff spot. Now, I may be slightly partial to Zuccarello because he is my favorite New York Ranger, but I don’t believe anyone would say much different.
Zuccarello has been practicing with the team the last few days and it has been reported that the injury is getting better and better each day. I don’t think that it will be long before we see the 5’7, left-wing back in the line up and his return couldn’t come at a better time. Now while his line hasn’t suffered too much with Derrick Brassard continuing to step up to the plate with his 2 goals in the last 3 games, I think the rest of the Rangers performance has been off since returning from the Olympic break, with the exception of last Thursday against the 2013 Stanley Cup Champions the Chicago Blackhawks. I am hopeful that with the return of Zuccarello and the trade deadline quickly approaching, this team will bounce back from the rut into which they have fallen.
