Hello New York Rangers fans and happy Sunday! Since it is Sunday, we all know that means it’s time for another feature of Belvin’s Bandwagon! For anyone who is new or needs a refresher, this is where I talk about my favorite and least favorite Rangers for this week’s games. The three game’s we’re going to reference for this week are Wednesday’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Friday’s 4-2 win against the Carolina Hurricanes and Sunday’s 3-0 win against the Detroit Red Wings. So, without waiting any longer, lets get it started!
LIKE: Derek Stepan, Ryan McDonagh, Martin St. Louis. Derek Stepan has struggled for most of the season and has not really lived up to the expectations that were set after he lead the Rangers in points last season. However I’m happy to see he’s heating up, he’s currently on a six game point streak, with nine points in those six games, five of those points coming in this week’s three games. I said a few weeks ago that the first line needed to step up for the Rangers to be successful and I’m glad to see Stepan stepping up towards the end of the season while the team is pushing for the playoffs. McDonagh is having his best season so far and it really only gets better and better, not only is he one of the Rangers best shut down defenseman, but he is leading the team’s defense in points scored with 35. McDonagh is on a four game points streak with five points in those four and four points in this week’s three games. Also worth noting, this week he has become a penalty kill expert, scoring two shorthanded goals in as many games. St. Louis is a different situation, although he assisted on the game-winning goal against Carolina on Friday, that’s not why he’s made it to this list. He is handling the transition very well and the chemistry he’s rekindled with Brad Richards and developed with Carl Hagelin is unbelievable, he’s really turned the second line into a scoring threat in such a short period of time.
DISLIKE: I have to be honest, I sat here for quite some time trying to decide who I disliked this week, and we’ve hit one of those rare situations where I like everyone. Alas, it is true I like everyone in this week’s game. I think the Rangers as a whole struggled for a few games to get out of their post-Olympic rut and get over the fact that their captain was traded, but once they did that they started to play well and it makes me happy to be able to leave this column empty for this week.
Anyway, that was this week’s bandwagon! Let us know what you think by commenting below or by tweeting @bluelinestation or @kennybelvin!
