New York Rangers Roundup: 3/19/14

It’s the day after a huge New York Rangers win and everyone should be smiling! Seven goals from five players and boy did Derick Brassard find a three-point way to get out of his scoring drought!

The Rangers found themselves in a very precarious situation going into last night’s game. Two teams fighting for the post season and desperate to win. It was not a game that was well suited to the goal tenders; it was all about scoring. Both teams found the back of the net frequently, the Rangers just did it more. Henrik Lundqvist collected regular season career win number 302 to become the winningest goalie in franchise history. That’s not too shabby by any means!

Given the rivalry between the Rangers and the New Jersey Devils, someone had to drag Martin Brodeur into the conversation of Lundqvist’s milestone and get his input. Comparing the two goal tenders is nearly impossible given the courses of their careers and the changes in the league through time. At any rate, we all know who “The King” is; and the court jester

In addition to yesterday’s great show on the ice, James Dolan, in a rare media appearance, spoke out about the Ryan Callahan trade and contract negotiations and difficulties. Ultimately, the price tag was too much, as we already knew, and it sounds as though there may be more changes coming to the roster for the “long-term goals of the team”. Maybe a buyout is in the near future? Maybe contracts don’t get extended after this season? Maybe nothing will be decided until after the season is over and the end result is assessed.

The future is full of possibilities and it doesn’t do to dwell on what might happen. Get out there and smile, live for now and enjoy last night’s brilliant display of effort and skill by the entire Rangers team! They deserve it! Let’s Go Rangers!!
