Lacing Up With Blue Line Station

Hey everyone!  I’m Matt Markowitz and am thrilled to be the newest Staff Writer for Blue Line Station.  I am a senior  Public Relations major at Hofstra University.  Writing has always been a passion of mine and if I can talk sports while doing that, I’m even happier.

I grew up playing eight years of youth hockey and have been skating since I was three years old.  Hockey has been a big part of my life.  Having been born in New York but raised in both St. Louis and Connecticut hockey has followed me everywhere.  The ice I learned to skate on in St. Louis is where Wayne Gretzky and the Blues practiced during his time with the team.  In Connecticut, hockey is huge.  Growing up, if you weren’t playing soccer or hockey you were doing something wrong.  Since my roots are in New York and is where most of my family is from, the Rangers have always been

my team.

My two favorite players are Chris Kreider and Brad Richards.  I see a ton of potential in Kreider having had a great college career.  He also plays Left Wing which was my position when I played so it’s fun to watch him there.  Richards on the other hand has played for years and is a proven leader.  With a championship under his belt he knows what it takes to win and I think he’s a great presence on the team for the young guys like Kreider.
