New York Rangers vs Calgary Flames: Three Stars

The New York Rangers could not hold their lead and lost 4-3 to the Calgary Flames last night. Their five game win streak had come to an end. However, they are still ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers by one point in the Metropolitan standings. Here are the game’s three stars according to the NHL:

1st star was awarded to Flames goalie Kari Ramo. The 27 year old was under attack the whole game. He stopped 38 of 41 shots faced, giving him a save percentage of .927. The New York Rangers had chances, putting pucks on net. In the first period, Ramo faced 18 shots, stopping all of them. However, Ramo was able to weather the storm and overcome a second period barrage of Rangers’s shots on goal. Ramo stopped all 11 shots faced in the third period and held on to earn his 14th win of the season

2nd star honors went to Calgary defenseman TJ Brodie. He finished the night with two assists and three shots on goal. In the first period, he assisted on a power play goal by Joe Colbourne . This opened up the scoring for both teams. Later, he assisted another goal by Kevin Westgarth in the second period, which tied the game at 3-3.

3rd star recognition went to Rangers assistant captain, Brad Richards. For the game, he had one goal and two points while skating at a +2 goal differential. He had five shots on goal and total ice time of 17:41 minutes. He helped tie the game for the Blueshirts in the second period, assisting on defenseman Raphael Diaz’s first goal as a Ranger. Later, he added another goal to help the Rangers take control of the second period.

My three stars are as follows:

1st Star-Raphael Diaz
2nd Star-the 4th Line for the New York Rangers
3rd Star-Kari Ramo

In my opinion, these three players were the most noticeable in the game. Diaz, filling in for the injured John Moore the past four games, has been a welcomed addition to the Rangers. He has been a +1 since he was inserted into the lineup. Tonight, he scored his first goal as a Ranger.

The 4th line should be recognized for their efforts tonight. As a line, they had a combined three points, in the form of one goal and two assists, as well as a +2. As a whole, they were best line for the Rangers tonight.
