New York Rangers vs Carolina Hurricanes: Three Stars

Hello New York Rangers fans! How about the Rangers 4-1 victory of the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at Madison Square Garden? It was a good win that really helped the Rangers keep a two point lead on their hold on second place in the Metropolitan division, so who were the three stars of the game, who were my three stars of the game? Let’s find out.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:

1) Brad Richards – Two goals, both on the power play. Brad Richards had an excellent game, and finally saw some success on the power play. If the Rangers are going to go deep in the playoffs they’re going to need some leadership from one of their three Stanley Cup Champions, that means Richards has to get out of his slump and really push through and help carry this team deep into the postseason then he needs to get going and hopefully tonight was that night for him.

2) Martin St. Louis – Three assists. All I have to say is FINALLY! I really hope this is a breakout moment for St. Louis, he’s struggled offensively in his games since his arrival in New York City, and admittedly has played some of his worst hockey and needs to have a breakout, not only for personal reasons but much like Richards if the Rangers want to go far in the post season.

3) Henrik Lundqvist – 28 Saves, .964 save percentage. After letting up a goal early that was really more of the fault of the defensemen on the ice, Lundqvist was stellar, and he made some fantastic saves to keep the game in the Rangers favor. However, the idea of Lundqvist doing big things for the Rangers is nothing new in “Rangerstown”.

MY THREE STARS:

Truly I think the NHL nailed it right on the head, I agree with their stars and I agree with the order in which they were chosen, Richards did the work he’s supposed to do on the power play, St. Louis gave a special guest appearance and Lundqvist did what he always does. Maybe we can give an honorable mention to the Benoit PouliotDerick BrassardMats Zuccarello line, but if not then there is nothing else to say.
