Talbot is a rather sizable goal tender. He is tall and uses that extra reach to his advantage. He takes up a huge part of the net, leaving only small areas for shooters. His reflexes are also pretty good, but his positioning is really what helps him the most. This year is Talbot’s rookie season. It’s hard to really go too far to the positive or the negative with a rookie goal tender. The New York Rangers got a steal with this undrafted goal tender. Talbot did post the first win, against the Montreal Canadiens for the Rangers in several years; it was a shut out to boot. He is confident in himself and his abilities, that is extremely important! Truth be told, he did exactly what was needed of a back-up this year. The last couple years the Rangers have been looking for a capable back-up to play around 20 games in the season to give Henrik Lundqvist a break at different points in the season.

Talbot seems to get rattled easily. One bad goal and you could see in his body language that his concentration was broken, that is hard to regain for many. If Talbot can manage to keep his focus and let things go when they happen his game will drastically improve.

Post Season Prediction:

I don’t expect to see Talbot on the ice much for the playoffs. If the Rangers manage to face the Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Finals, we may see Talbot handling the road games. After all, you’ve got to play the lucky goal tender, right?!
