MSG Network’s “Beginnings” Series is set to air its fourth season this fall, featuring Henrik Lundqvist, Carl Hagelin and Mats Zuccarello, according to MSG’s website. Now whoever your favorite player may be, this is undoubtedly a very exciting lineup. This will be the first time the show has traveled outside North America to cover the New York Rangers‘ stories. Lundqvist and Hagelin are both native to Sweden whereas Zuccarello hails from Norway. Altogether, it’ll be interesting to see the Scandinavian Blueshirts return to their hometowns to share their stories.
Whereas Hagelin and Zuccarello are definitely popular players, it’s safe to say that Lundqvist is the fan-favorite at the moment. He was recently listed as the top Ranger, and 11th overall, in NHL.com’s top 275 fantasy rankings. After his incredible performance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, many steadfast Rangers fans on Instagram and Facebook have expressed the need for MSG’s coverage on Hank. Now that that need is being tended to, and considering the brilliance of the MSG series, I’m sure we won’t be disappointed in any of the upcoming episodes.
While we impatiently wait for the hockey season to come back, I highly recommend checking out a few of the past MSG Beginnings. Each installment gives us more than just a glimpse at how a particular Ranger first began playing hockey as a young kid on hometown ice and provides us an in-depth look at the journey, the highs along with the lows, eventually leading up to Madison Square Garden. No matter which episode you watch, you’re bound to feel inspired and even more excited to see the team back on the ice. Here’s one of my favorites, on Ryan McDonagh:
Other previously featured players include Derick Brassard, Marc Staal, Dan Girardi, Derek Stepan and a few others. Rangers legends, Nick Fotiu and Adam Graves, have also been featured, answering questions like “How did Fotiu become the first professional hockey player from Staten Island end up playing for the Rangers?” and “What was it like for Graves to win the ’94 Stanley Cup?” If you’re a longtime fan, you will definitely want to see those episodes if you haven’t already. Seen all the episodes before? Let me know which is your favorite in the comments below!
If you’re one to start counting the days ’til the new episodes, the air dates have yet to be officially announced. However, Beginnings have usually premiered following MSG’s coverage of a Rangers’ regular season game. Thus, another reason to ask: Is it October Yet??
