New York Rangers Weekly Wrap Up: Carl Hagelin Signing Watch 2015

facebooktwitterreddit

In case you missed it, here’s what the buzz was all about over the past week.

Recently, the Anaheim Ducks signed Jakob Silfverburg to a $15 million, four-year-contract with an average annual cap hit of $3.75 million. It was a relatively cheap signing and a great big W for the Ducks, especially considering the 13 goals and 39 points he posted last year in his first full NHL season.

As New York Rangers fans, the Silfverburg signing brought our attention to none other than Carl Hagelin. Hagelin is surprisingly still unsigned. Will the Ducks actually sign him? Well, there has been “progress” in contract negotiations and the Silfverburg signing could speed things up a bit.

While we wait for a decision to be reached, would it be so wild to think that Hagelin could return to the Big Apple? Click on the link below and scroll down to read our Editor’s thoughts.

With Hags off the team, here’s who will definitely pick up the slack this year in another post by our Editor.

Of course, all of the players mentioned in the above post are great, but can you guess which current Ranger is judged the most likely to be inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame?

It’s going to take the whole team to make a legitimate run for the Cup this season. And with even more motivation to win it all this year, maybe we’ll be saying third time’s the charm.

Why the Rangers Are In Win-Now Mode, More Than Ever – Tony

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but there’s been some not-so-great news as well. The Rangers ranked pretty close to number one on a list of the NHL’s worst long-term cap issues. Additionally, their power play for the upcoming season didn’t fair too well either. Nevertheless, this is hockey. Anything can happen.

GM Jeff Gorton is a contract wizard and power plays aren’t everything. Remember the Rangers’ track record last season? Despite horrific face-off percentages, they would find ways to win games. And they ended up being the best team in the league by the end of the regular season. With that said, keep the faith while reading these two posts.

In our Flashback Friday this past week, we took a look at Derick Brassard‘s goals last season and let me tell you, it was a beautiful sight.

The clip of the week is Hilary Knight trying out some skates that aren’t particularly designed for hockeying. Goes to show that what’s on your feet matters a whole heck of a lot out on the ice.

And that’s all for the weekly wrap up.
