Welcome back for the Thursday edition, New York Rangers fans. Here are some tidbits we want to share with you all:

Female hockey star joining new NWHL- THEHOCKEYNEWS.COM

One of the female hockey stars from the Winter Olympics in Sochi will be making her way to the newly-formed NWHL (National Women’s Hockey League).

For the past three seasons, Hilary Knight has been playing with the Boston Blades of the CWHL.

Before that, she attended the University of Wisconsin and played four years on the Badgers female hockey team. After her college career ended, she became the school’s all-time leader in points (262), goals (143), game-winning goals (30), power play goals (37), and short-handed goals (8).

She was selected third overall in the 2012 CWHL Entry Draft by the Blades, and would rank third in scoring for the season. She was the first American to capture the league’s most valuable player award. The following season, she would help her team capture the Clarkson Cup, the CWHL’s championship.

But, Knight’s popularity rose in her participation in the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics. She helped Team USA capture Silver in both years of international play.

Now, her popularity could grow even more. In Jarod Clinton’s latest article, Knight has been lending her face to NWHL’s promotions and appearances, prompting the rumored move of the female star’s from the CWHL.

The question brought up was: where would she play?

Clinton narrows down the star’s choices to the Boston Pride and New York Riveters. Both cities would give her great opportunities in growing her brand and growing the league.

Could we be seeing a the next female pioneer like Mia Hamm did for soccer or Annika Sorenstam did for golf? Stay tuned!

‘Challenge’ awaits Habs coach heading into training camp- NHL.com

Montreal Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien met with the media yesterday to discuss preparations and expectations for his team this season.

One of the questions asked was the addition of their newest forward Alexander Semin.

He’s been a prolific scorer for most of his eight-year career. However, the knock on the Semin has been his tendency to be unmotivated and inconsistent during a season.

That is where Therrien and his staff come in. In an article on NHL.com, he gave his thoughts on the former 40-goal scorer:

"It’s a nice challenge, that’s how I look at it…He’s a guy that’s full of potential, and there’s an opportunity for him to get back to where we think he can be as a player, and where I imagine he also thinks he can be as a player. We’re going to give him an opportunity, and it’s the type of player we were missing when you looked at our team. He’s a guy who can score, who can make plays and who’s shown in the past that he can contribute to the success of a team offensively. But as far as I’m concerned, I see it as a challenge."

We shall see if the Canadiens locker room is able to make a connection with the Russian forward.

And that’s the news for today. See you all tomorrow!
