Here’s your Sunday edition, New York Rangers Fans.

Ducks sign Hags, FINALLY!- WWW.NHL.COM

Well, the day that most Rangers fans were dreading became reality. Carl Hagelin was inked to a four-year deal on Friday.

For Haglein, it was a good way to start off his weekend. For fans in New York, just made the commute home that much more unbearable. Bet you lost your appetite for that leftover lasagna you brought into lunch, after that news.

If you missed it, the Anaheim Ducks re-signed Haglein to a four-year contract, worth $16 million. That averages out to $4 million a year towards their cap.

Questions and a little hope rose in the Rangers fan base about the Swedish forward. After being traded tot he Ducks in exchange for Emerson Etem this past June, the restricted free agent remained unsigned. Etem was signed to one-year deal soon after being traded to New York.

At least a month passed after Hagelin’s rights were dealt to Anaheim. Was the Swede in jeopardy of not being signed by his new team? Was there a chance the Rangers would snatch back one of their fans’ favorites?

Not necessarily. One, the Ducks had already put in a qualifying offer to keep his negotiating rights. And two, even if he did return, where would he be positioned? Would he fit under the team’s budget?

With the addition of the new personnel that came on board, and the need to sign another RFA in Derek Stepan, it did not seem possible. It was clear that the Rangers organization was looking towards to the future, rather than looking back and holding onto the past.

The wants of the many, don’t outweigh the wants of the few. It’s unfortunate that a home-grown talent like Hagelin had to be the recent one to go, but sometimes difficult decisions give way to new opportunities for everyone.

Good luck in Anaheim, Hags! We will see you in December!

Optimism from the new Rangers addition- BLUESHIRTSUNITED.COM

With each passing day, the thought of having free agent signee Jarret Stoll coming to the Blueshirts gets my blood flowing and eager for training camp to start.

I am not penciling him into the opening night lineup juuuuust yet. We all know what happened with Ryan Malone.

But there seems to be a growing optimism of what the 33-year old veteran will be able to contribute. No doubts he will be eager to prove his critics wrong and erase his checkered past from April of this year.

Plus, his teammates will not hamper that and make sure that they bring out the best in him, while keeping him on the straight and narrow.

Here is part of Stoll’s press conference last Monday:

"I know what I can bring to the team and what kind of player I am. I can play a lot of different roles and will play anywhere in the lineup. I just want to help the team win. I have won before and I just want to fit in with a good group where I could do that again. I can help in a lot of ways"

Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton had this to say of the former Los Angeles Kings forward:

"(Stoll) can move up and down the lineup…he can play the point on the power play. I think all of those factors went into our decision on this one. I think he’ll fit in well…"

You have to like that confidence from a player.

This just made us all that much more eager to see how Stoll and the rest of the new pieces added in the offseason mesh with the current personnel.

And that’s the news for today. We look forward talking with you all tomorrow!
