New York Rangers Weekly Wrap Up: News, Opinions, and Remembrance

Welcome to another week of work and school. But hey, it’s one more week closer to the hockey season.

In case you missed it, here is a recap of what was brewing in our New York Rangers cauldron.

Last week got off to a bang for the team, as they announced the addition of veteran Jarret Stoll. The former Los Angeles Kings forward, who won two Stanley Cups with them in 2012 and 2014, went unsigned after last season.

In April, he got into legal trouble, which may have prompted the Kings organization to move forward without him in the picture. Stoll has been repenting for his mistake by doing community service to at-risk youth in the Los Angeles area.

Enter in the Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton to throw a curve ball at the fans. His addition of Stoll was not even a thought to the team’s on-lookers. But, this has the potential of being something good, as written by Jessica earlier this week.

Rangers Signing Jarret Stoll is a Good Thing

From one former King to the present King, Henrik Lundqvist dominates Rangers hockey.

His suave and smooth personality makes him an instant hit with fans.

In addition, his decade-play on the ice has brought hope that one day the Rangers will add to the legacy that was last seen with another Rangers goaltending great Mike Richter in 1994: a Stanley Cup parade down the Canyon of Heroes.

For motivation to reach the ultimate goal, the King unveiled his new goalie mask for the upcoming season. Nothing drastically different, design-wise. He’s keeping the overall look of his helmet the same, but his signature crown and cage-area will be all chrome.

Goalies are all about rituals, and this might be his. Lundqvist may have been thinking that he doesn’t mess up the past two years of playoff success by overhauling his mask.

If it’s not broke, why fix it right?

Speaking of things not needing much fixing, Andrew brings up a touchy subject that has been the talk of Rangers fans.

The idea of trading Rick Nash, Derek Stepan before his contract extension, and Lundqvist. It seems these players are most of the time brought up by the fanbase, at any point of the year.

It’s not what the player has meant to the team in the past, it’s those stretches where they have bad streaks magnified and some fans calling for their banishment.

Andrew’s opinion is that these ideas are ridiculous, and that calmer heads need to prevail.

Rangers Shouldn’t Fix What Isn’t Broken

Last Thursday, we brought up two articles that are worh looking back on. The first one was on Wayne Gretzky and remembering his time with the Rangers. Not many of today’s fans will recall his time as a Blueshirt.

However, he remained a productive contributor for two of his three seasons in New York. He eclipsed 90 + points twice, and lead the team in scoring in his first year.

Father time, seemed to stop or rewind for a brief moment for the Great One.

Unfortunately, his years at Madison Square Garden would be the last of his outstanding career. We look back and pay homage to #99, a player whom may not be surpassed for a long time.

To end the work week, we posted another article in our Flashback Friday series. Last week’s edition featured Mats Zuccarello and his top five goals from the 2014-2015 season.

The fan favorite had a slow season, as compared to 2013-2014.

However, the Norwegian Hobbit had plenty top showcase. We take a look back at his brilliance on the ice, and hope he fully recovers from his head injury in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

He will be one of those counted on to help deliver the elusive Stanley Cup.

We concluded the week with a poll question, where we put you in the seat of general manager Jeff Gorton.

If you were to choose between Nash and Keith Yandle, who would you trade? Connor puts you in the big chair and makes cases for both players as to why they should stay in Rangers blue.

However, he also provides the pros and cons of both players. In the end, he gives you the voice and provides you with an opportunity to vote on which player you would like to trade.

Yandle vs Nash-Who Should be Traded?
