Here’s your daily dose for Wednesday, New York Rangers fans.

Calgary Flames Ink Captain to Six-Year Extension – NHL.com

The Calgary Flames struck a long awaited deal yesterday with Captain, Mark Giordano. The defenseman signed for six more years at $6.75 million per and Giordano is worth every penny.

Giordano tore a bicep tendon last February, ending the season with 11 goals and 48 points over 61 games – a Norris Trophy worthy performance until the injury. He’s now back on his skates and training to full capacity. Giordano says, “I don’t even think about the injury anymore,” according to GM Brad Treliving.

The 31-year-old has been with the Flames his entire NHL career so to sign a long term deal now is really perfect. And seeing that Calgary as a hockey club is headed in the right direction, keeping Giordano around can only benefit the Flames.

Las Vegas and Quebec in Final Phase of Expansion – The Globe and Mail

We’ve been tracking this story for a while now and it looks as though things are moving fairly quickly. After Las Vegas and Quebec put in their bids for expansion a few months ago, they are now entering the third and final phase.

In this part of the process, the NHL will look over the business plans and projected revenues for each team according to an anonymous source, told to the Associated Press (anon. because the NHL has not officially stated anything about what goes on in this stage yet). This part could take up to about a month. After that, the league and board of governors will vote on whether or not Las Vegas and Quebec can join in on the fun, provided everything goes smoothly over the next month.

One bump that could occur, however, is the thought that the Canadian dollar may not be strong enough, possibly hindering Quebec from getting their team in the meantime, per Sports Illustrated.

Nevertheless, if both or either of the teams pass voting the expansion will take place as soon as the 2017-18 season. Quebec is hoping to have their Nordiques back, but what about Las Vegas? The popular choice for Sin City seems to be the Las Vegas Aces, though it’s not official yet.

This is pretty exciting stuff. Who would’ve thought there would be another matchup between the New York Rangers and the Quebec Nordiques? Or much less one between the Rangers and a Las Vegas team? If the expansion is successful, and hopefully it will be, we’ll be definitely be watching how these two teams square up to ours.

And that’s it for today, see you all again tomorrow in another daily dose.
