Day Two of New York Rangers Training Camp- Flashiness, Hard Hits, and Praise

Day two of New York Rangers Training Camp saw more action as players took to the ice, in their respective squads.

Courtesy of the official twitter account of the Rangers, @NYRangers, and Jim Cerny of blueshirtsunited.com, we were able to piece together what happened today.

Head coach Alain Vigneault opened up his post- practice media session with all smiles, according to Cerny:

"It’s a great day for the New York Rangers"

Of course everyday is a great day in Rangerstown, but he is referencing the return of Mats Zuccarello to the team.

Upon his rejoining to the ice with his teammates, Zuccarello put on an impression for the head coach.

Apparently the Norwegian Hobbit didn’t lose his personality while he was injured. After slapping a shot past one of the newest additions to the team, Antti Raanta, Zuccarello celebrated Chi-Chi Rodiguez-style by doing his own Zorro-impression with his hockey stick. He wielded it like a sword, and put it back into its scabbard.

Needless to say, it made Vigneault crack up. He may have perhaps looked like he did when Tanner Glass scored his first goal last season against the Ottawa Senators: https://youtu.be/FIehnX-OibA However, Vigneault is throwing caution to the wind and treating Zuccarello with kid gloves this preseason:

Another funny moment involved defenseman Kevin Klein and prospect Richard Nejezchleb. Apparently, the rookie got a rude awakening from the veteran on a play along the boards.

Klein checked the 2014 fifth-rounder so hard, that his nameplate stuck to the glass of the SAP practice rink:

Maybe, it was difficult for Klein to pronounce the rookie’s last name that Klein just rode him into the glass. It was later placed back on Nejezchleb, and the rookie appeared to receive some friendly advice from veteran-newcomer Jarret Stoll:

From today’s reports, all was good from Rangers Camp. Vigneault commented on the conditioning of his players, especially Rick Nash, Dominic Moore, and Brady Skjei. It seems that the Rangers have made it a point of emphasis to have their players in tip-top shape heading into the grueling 82-game season.

A couple of other tweets from the Rangers team account sent out these earlier today from Day Two:

The Rangers first preseason game will be on Monday, when they take on the New Jersey Devils at Madison Square Garden.
