New York Rangers: News, Rumors and Rumblings, February 2nd, 2017
All the latest news, rumors and info surrounding your New York Rangers all in one, convenient place!
- In case you missed the game Tuesday night–which, if you did, bless your soul–the Rangers got spanked by the Blue Jackets. Don’t let the close final score fool you into think any differently.
- Dave Shapiro over at BlueSeatsBlogs wrote about how what you see is what you get with this Rangers squad.
- If that pathetic excuse for a hockey game tells you anything, it is that the team is ways away from being a top contender in the league. To that point, our very own Brandon Cohen wrote about how the Rangers should be aiming to win the Cup in 2017-2018, because there may be too much work to be done to get this current team there.
- Brandon also wrote about some thoughts that he has about this team through 50 games.
- As I am sure you all know, Alain Vigneault signed a two-year contract extension with the Rangers earlier in the week. This is what Vigneault had to say about the decision via the New York Post.
- The best way for Vigneault to earn his contract is if he is making smart personnel decisions. Taking a harder look at Adam Clendening might be the best move he can make with his current roster, according to Sean Hartnett.
How Good Are They?
- Mike Murphy of Blueshirt Banter took a look at the Rangers performance at even strength so far this season. The results are positive but also warrant concern all at the same time.
- It appears that Vigneault will keep his lines that he used in the third period of the Blue Jackets game intact. This may be a good thing for the team since they were able to score four goals in the period. It’s true effect, though, remains to be seen.
- We all love our trade rumors stories, especially when they involve a new, shiny defenseman. Blue Seats Blog talked to SB Nation’s Sabres blog about the prospects of Cody Franson if perhaps the Rangers were to make a trade for him.
- Blue Seats Blog also wrote one other really cool story about how Pavel Buchnevich is the Rangers’ most important forward. This what I will say about Buchnevich; he is special. He is so special that I think he can grow into being a top 15 forward in the NHL. We have seen flashes of his brilliance all year long. Once he is used to the North American ice, watch out league…
Next: Rangers Jumped the Gun By Extending Alain Vigneault
- Lastly, it appears that MSG GO, the app that allows MSG subscribers to watch the Knicks and Red Bulls on the go will begin to carry Rangers, Devils and Islanders game very soon. This is great news for people who go to school or go away to work out of market. They can now get Rangers games for free instead of paying for NHL Game Center.
