The New York Rangers have not been to the cup final since 2014 and last won in 1994. As of now, there are still pieces missing if they want to win soon.

After a poor start to the season, the New York Rangers are back in the playoff race. In their last 10 games, they have gone 7-3-0 and currently sit just outside of a wild card position. However, the Rangers still need certain pieces if they want to be a genuine cup contender.

After losing in the 2014 Stanley Cup Final to the Los Angeles Kings, expectations were high for the 2015 season where they lost in the Eastern Conference Final. The next year they lost in the first round to the eventual champions the Pittsburgh Penguins, and in 2017 lost to the Ottawa Senators in the second round.

After losing in the second round to Ottawa, the Rangers made big decisions in the offseason. They traded number one center and longtime Ranger Derek Stepan, along with dependable backup goalie Antti Raanta to the Arizona Coyotes for defensive prospect Tony DeAngelo and the 7th overall pick. They also inked Kevin Shattenkirk to a 4 year, 6.65 million dollar deal to help bolster their powerplay.

What else do the Rangers need? Let’s take a look and find out.
