New York Rangers prospect Adam Edström was a force in the SHL today

If the New York Ranger are looking to be tough team to play against they may want to turn to Adam Edström.  The 20 year old Swedish center is one of the biggest prospects in the pipeline and on Tuesday, he was a force in Rögle’s 5-3 win at Färjestad.

Adam Edström had his best game of the season and is starting to assert himself.  He had a goal and an assist, his first two points on the season.  In 12:57 of ice time he had six shots on goal and four hits, the most on the team.

At 6’6″, 212 pounds, Edström is a big physical presence.  Look at this check that he threw at Per Åslund of Färjestad.

Edström scored the second goal for Rögle, putting them up 2-0 at7:52 of the first period.

It wasn’t a work of art.  Edström  (#34) took the original shot and then went to the net and knocked in the rebound. The goal was his first point of the season, in his sixth game.

He also assisted on defenseman Samuel Jonsson’s third period goal that opened up a 4-2 lead.

In this tweet of Jonsson and Edström  celebrating the goal, you can see how big he is, towering over his teammate.  He’s a full eight inches taller than Jonssson who is  5’10”.

Edström got off to a rocky start to the season, getting suspended after his first game for an illegal hit that was ruled a head shot.  When he returned to action on October 10, he saw limited ice time, but has been getting more playing time in his last two games. Tuesday, he rewarded his coaches.

He was a sixth round pick in he 2019 draft.  This is second year with Rögle in the SHL. Last season as a 19 year old he had four goals and nine points in 46 games.

With the win, Rögle moved into first place in the SHL with  only two losses in 11 games.

Other Swedish action

In other SHL action, Frölunda was upset by sixth place Oskarshamn on the road, knocking them out of first place.  It was Frölunda ‘s third loss this season.

Rangers prospect center Karl Henriksson had one shot on goal in 15:14 minutes of play.  He finished minus one on the game.

Calle Själin and Leksand dropped a 3-1 decision to HV71.  Själin played 13:40 and was a minus two on the night.  He had three shot attempts with two on goal.   If anyone cares, Lias Andersson was in the lineup for HV71 and was coreless.  He has two goals and five points in six games.

Nils Lundkvist and Luleå was supposed to play Linköping at home,  but the game was cancelled as Linköping is on quarantine after a positive COVID-19 test.

In Swedish juniors action, 2020 draft pick Oliver Tärnström was scoreless in AIK’s 4-1 loss to Djugardens.

There was one game in Finland featuring a Rangers prospect as KalPa beat TPS 5-3.

Leevi Aaltonen was on the winning side for KalPa. The left winger played 5:54 and had four shots on goal.  It was KalPa’s first game in ten days after three straight cancellations due to the coronavirus.

Lauri Pajuniemi missed his eighth straight game for TPS and they remain winless in regulation without hit. He should be making a return to the lineup soon as he has been out over three weeks and the original estimate was that he would be out for about a month.
