The trade deadline had many people scratching their heads. Why would Sather trade a 40 goal sniper when he is in an obvious slump? Would we even get close to his value since Gaborik is playing like a 3rd line wing? Sather is a Genius! Pack Gabby’s bags and send the plane to pick up Brassard and Moore from Columbus. These two guys brought the heart and soul that was lacking from this locker room. A total turn around in the style of play has begun with a trade which mostly everyone just did not understand.

Brassard has changed the power play just by getting on the ice. Since joining the Rangers, the power play is at 24.1% (7-29), which is good enough to be third in the NHL. In just eight games played in New York, Brassard has 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points. I’d say that was a great pick up.

Then lets add to it with John Moore. Moore is a solid defenseman who could eventually be a top 4 in this league. He is young and makes his fair share of mistakes but as a bottom two on this roster, he is great. He jumps in on the offense and takes care of himself. Last night, Moore put a good hit on Jack Skille against the boards. Both went to the ice and Skille took a cheap shot to the face of Moore. Moore got up and dropped the gloves and gave Skille more than he could have ever wanted.

Makes me ask this question, was this worth the trade for Gaborik? My answer is huge YES. Both Brassard and Moore have produced way beyond my expectations and they are only going to get better as they become seasoned.

The best part of this trade is the Rangers got another player in this deal. Derek Dorsett is still recovering from his broken collarbone. If he plays half as well as Brassard and Moore, I can say without a doubt, the Rangers got the better of this deal.

One of the players that the Rangers got back for Gaborik was Derick Brassard. Lets take a closer look at Brassard and what he will bring to the Rangers.

Brassard is a good young player who will be an asset on the PP and give the Rangers much needed heart. Brassard plays with his emotions on his sleeve and is a hard nose, blue collar wing. Keep an eye on Brassard and enjoy what he is going to bring to this Rangers team.
