Finally. It’s here. We all have our closure. The season has been saved. The league and it’s players met for 16 hours straight yesterday to save it. I can’t remember the last thing I did for 16 hours straight.

Anyway, the players were able to minimize the damage that the owners tried to inflict and ultimately came up with a deal they and the owners are able to live with.

Main points:

Maximum 7 year contracts for signing players. 8 year contracts if it’s your own players.

10 year CBA. Mutual opt out after 8 years.

Salary cap for 2013-14 season $64.3. Cap floor $44 million.

Draft lottery makes all non playoff teams fully eligible for the 1st overall pick.

Teams must use two amnesty buyouts before the 2013-14 season.

Salary variance is now at 35% year to year. Lowest salary cannot be more than 50% in the lowest year.

I have stuff to do today and hopefully by tonight I can have more details on this, and some stuff regarding the Rangers.

Things have taken a turn for the worse in the NHL on this already extremely sad occasion with what happened in Connecticut. My heart really goes out to all the victims and their families.

Today the NHL has filed a class action complaint in New York Federal Court seeking a deceleration to confirm the legality of the lockout.

Let’s put that into english. If the NHL wins the NHLPA can no longer file for disclaimer of interest. As a result the NHL’s offer will truly be take it or leave it. There’s no way the NHL will give in to the players anymore than they already have.

I really don’t see how the NHL doesn’t win this class action complaint. While I don’t agree with basically anything they’ve done so far, they’ve done nothing “wrong”. They run the league, they can do what they want.

My opinion with what’s happened in the last 24 hours is the NHLPA should really take the leagues last proposal into a vote. I’m not going to beg them to take the deal if it’s truly as bad as they’re making it out to be. If they can live with the deal though, it’s probably in their best interest to take the deal.
