New York Rangers Report Cards Round Two: The Defense
Adam Clendening
Previous Grade: C
Injuries paved the way for Adam Clendening to see consistent minutes for his first time since joining New York. He finally seemed to find his way in the Rangers’ lineup, then Alain Vigneault happened again.
Since his last grading, Clendening has appeared in 16 games, recording two goals and four assists. While six points is not an amazing number and certainly isn’t the solution to the team’s defensive woes, the puck-moving defenseman has shown he can be a contributor.
His advanced metrics continue to favor his offensive abilities, with his 57.3 CF% leading the Rangers’ defense. He also leads the Rangers’ defense in offensive zone starts by a large margin, starting in the opponent’s end 65.6% of the time.
If moves are made playing time could open up again for the young right-handed defenseman. One thing is clear, Adam Clendening deserves to be a regular NHL plater.
