Odds and ends

  • Henrik Lundqvist will be in net for the Rangers.  It is his 10th start of the year after making his first relief appearance in two seasons on Thursday against Tampa.   He’s  been pretty special against Florida in his career with a 26-10-4 record and a 2.17 goals against average.
  • Who’s hot: Artemi Panarin has a ten game point scoring streak, the longest streak of his career.  He has four goals and 11 assists in those 10 games.  He is on pace to finish with 102 points.
  • Kaapo Kakko missed the last game with the flu.  Prior to that he had five goals in his last seven games.  He is second among rookies in goal scoring with six.
  • Filip Chytil has six goals in eight games since coming up from Hartford.  Even more impressive is that looking at his plus/minus, he is +5 and has had only one minus game.
  • Ryan Strome is still the second leading scorer on the team, with 16 points but has been held off the scoresheet for two straight games for only the second time this season.
  • Adam Fox has had points in five of his last six games (2-4-6).  Same for DeAngelo (1-5-6).
  • After not scoring a goal in his first seven games, Chris Kreider has five goals in 10 games.
  • Who’s not:  Lias Andersson has only one assist in 16 games.  His ice time is steadily decreasing and he has played over ten minutes once in the last four games. If he wasn’t still killing penalties he would be hardly noticeable.
  • Jacob Trouba has only one assist in his last 11 games and hasn’t scored a goal since the season opener.
  • Brady Skjei has one point, a goal, in his last seven games.
  • Brett Howden has one assist in his last nine games. He had a two point game against Buffalo, but has been held scoreless in 14 of the Rangers’ first 17 games.
  • By allowing five power play goals to Tampa, they dropped about ten spots in the rankings as they slipped from 80% efficiency to 74.5%.
  • The Blueshirts have had a very unbalanced schedule with 11 home games (5-4-2) and only six road games (3-3-0).   They are in a stretch when they play 11 of 16 games on the road.  They’ll know a lot more about the character and potential for this team when that heavy road schedule is over on December 14.
  • Since the 2013-14 season the Rangers have dominated the Panthers with a 13-2-4 record.  They swept the seasons series last season.
  • The Rangers lead the NHL with eight fighting majors this  season.  They were second in the league last season with 25, one behind the Bruins.  Brendan Lemieux is tied for the league lead with three.
  • The Rangers have not lost two games in a row since their five game losing streak in October.
  • The Panthers named former goalie Roberto Luongo as a special advisor to the General Manager.  Luongo retired after last season.  He had two stints with the Panthers over 11 seasons.
