Nice work by ESPN doing various Top 10 lists of the NHL, such as best #1 draft picks and teams.
In this spirit, I sat down to do a top 10 best Ranger players of the decade. After Lundqvist and Jagr it started to get very very hard. Almost embarrassingly hard. So I aborted and instead went with a top starting team of the decade.
G — Henrik Lundqvist. This is as much of a no-brainer as Tiger is for winning Worst Husband of the Year. (Technically, Mike Richter qualifies. But he barely does, and cause of concussions he was a shell of his former self in [...]

Best Of The Decade
After their latest 3-2 OTL loss to the Islanders, Dubinksy said “I don’t think we deserved to lose.” Maybe. But the Rangers certainly did not deserve to win either. The Rangers were out-hustled much of the game. They were beaten to lose pucks and denied passage through the neutral zone. By no stretch were the Islanders flying themselves, but they certainly were the “better” team. Some games have a feel where you know your team is going to come back. You just know. I never had that feeling, even after Dubinsky’s second goal with just seconds left in the third [...]
Welcome To The Party Vinny
After a 14 game absence, Vinny Prospal returned to the goal column netting 2, including the game winner off a nice play by Dubinsky to toss the puck in front. After the first goal Prospal looked to the heavens like “thank you god, it’s about time.” Kind of like Higgins did a while back (pretty much the last time he scored…but that’s another story). The top line is clicking now that Dubie is back playing well. And I stress “line,” not just Gaborik (who also scored and had an assist, of course).
And the love the top line is giving seems [...]
3 In A Row!
I almost didn’t use that title out of fear that I may jinx it. Like a no-hitter. We have a legitimate winning streak. Though, let’s not break out the good beer just yet. The wins were against the Fishsticks, Flyers, and Canes — all teams ranked worse than us. That said, two points is two points. And the best team we play in our next 5 games is Florida. There is a real chance for some serious points here.
What I particularly liked about last night’s game, even more so than Gilroy’s return, was the pace at which the team played. [...]
Must See Sports TV
Wanted to pass along two interesting sports programs you should watch, one hockey and one not.
Hockey-related: Junior Seau (of the NE Pats and a 19 year NFL vet) has a new show on Versus called Sports Jobs. Basically, each episode is him trying a different support staff sports job in a different sport. Why didn’t I think of this??? The second episode is him being an equipment manager for the Capitals. Pretty interesting insights into what they do, even for a hardened NHL fan. (The show itself is just okay — it’s missing that pull that makes you can’t wait [...]
A Winning Streak!
It’s been almost a month, but the Rangers finally strung together back-to-back wins. And a good win at that. The teamed played hard, put pucks on net, were quick to loose pucks, won the individual battles, and Lundqvist reigned supreme again. They even won without a goal from Gaborik.
Especially active were Anisimov, Lisin, and Callahan. All good signs. Anisimov continues to offer glimpses of why the team has such high potential for him. In the last two games he’s made two strong moves around the net that resulted in goals and played well defensively. Lisin skated well and had some important hits. [...]
Top 10 Fights Of The Decade
Courtesy of Puck Daddy, here are the Top 10 Fights Of The Decade. Enjoy. I did.
Rangers Dine On Fishsticks
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but this was the least impressive 5-2 win I’ve ever seen.
First the good. Lundqvist was spectacular, especially in the first period. Without him we go down 2-0 and lose this game. The team seemed to be on the brink of giving up when he kicked out his right pad (“flipper” as the Islanders anouncers’ loved to call it) and rescued the team. The power play was clutch. Not exactly pinpoint passing and set plays, but it scored 3 times. We were a perfect 7-7 on the PK. Another good game on faceoffs — 29 [...]
