The Lockout:

Fears of no hockey season were at an all time high as the lockout carried over into the new year. With the NHL and the NHLPA unable to reach an agreement, fan fears rose that the season may be lost. In total, 510 regular games were canceled as were the All-Star game and the Winter Classic. KraftHockeyville was also canceled. Business were losing revenue as were the the league and players. THen, as if by magic, the announcement came. On January 6th the memorandum was signed and finalized on the 12th. The shortened season yielded 48 games per team and it was a sprint to the playoffs where every game mattered. The lockout was led by Gary Bettman, who is no stranger to lockouts; this was his third NHL lockout in 19 years.
