2 former Rangers players who failed with their new team in 2025

The 2024-25 season saw plenty of roster movements made for the New York Rangers.

Then-captain Jacob Trouba was sent off and Kaapo Kakko was sent off to Seattle where he quickly earned some Star of the Game mentions. Vancouver's J.T. Miller was brought in to try and salvage the season, in which he put up a decent effort than most in the league. Most recently, Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury made waves when he traded away the longest tenured member the Blueshirts had in their franchise – Chris Kreider.

And while players like Kakko have seen more confidence since being sent packing from Madison Square Garden, here's a list of two players who have not seen as much on-ice success since their time as a Blueshirt ended.

Filip Chytil

After being traded by Drury on January 31, 2025, left-handed center Filip Chytil then played 15 games for the remainder of the 2024-25 season with Vancouver. While with the Canucks he tallied a mere six points across 15 games played, with two goals and four assists (-11).

Though, this is not to discount the fact that he was out with a concussion after he was hit from behind by Chicago Blackhawks forward Jason Dickinson on a March 15th matchup.

"I talked to him today and he said it was different than his last concussion," former Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet previously said to ESPN.com. "The bad days aren't as bad, so that's a positive, so I think we've got to take the positive approach. Plus he's got four, five months to rebuild himself, or who knows? We've just got to take it day by day with this guy right now."

Chytil was traded alongside Victor Mancini and a first round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft for J.T. Miller, Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington. At the time of his trade, there were words from fans and podcasters that the Canucks could "do better."

Dryden Hunt

Undrafted left wing Dryden Hunt was someone who hit his career high during his very first year as a New York Ranger in 2021-22 — putting up 17 total points off of 76 games played and six goals with 11 assists.

Flashing forward to 2022, The New York Rangers decided that both Dryden Hunt and Julien Gauthier did more to earn a spot than the (at the time) 21 year-old Vitali Kravtsov. While not his first team since no longer being a Blueshirt, Hunt's most recent season with the Calgary Flames was certainly not successful (three points, five games played).

Sure, he dealt with a knee injury this season and had an injury-plagued 2023-24 campaign that saw him play just 31 games, but since being a Ranger he has not come anywhere near 17 points.
