Mats Zuccarello Fan Favorite and Epic Wingman

Mats Zuccarello leads the New York Rangers in points so far this season. He has produced 47 points off of 21 goals and 26 assists. Zuccarello is also a fan favorite among MSG faithful, who have made it tradition to chant, “Zuuuuuuuucc” whenever Mats possesses the puck, or makes a worth while play.

Zuccarello helped the New York Rangers beat the Columbus Blue Jackets last night with a goal that put the Blueshirts up 1-0 in the first period, but arguably the biggest play of the night cannot be found in a box score or stat line. The biggest play of the night came when Zuccarello assisted a young man on the other side of the glass.

What is and Who are Wingmen?

Wingmen share an unparalleled bond. If you are a wingman, you have surpassed best friend status and have engraved yourself into the Parthenon of friendship. Wingmen can often be seen at weddings, disguised as the grooms best man.

Famous examples of wingmen are made visible via movies and television. Here are some of histories most infamous duos; E and Vince from Entourage, Sam and Frodo from Lord of the Rings, Watson and Holmes from Sherlock Holmes, Chewy and Han Solo in Star Wars and undoubtedly one of, if not the best example of wingmen, Goose and Maverick from Top Gun.

Wingmen look to each other in times of need. They are there for one another when times get tough, they pick each other up and encourage each other to push past expectations and most importantly they are there to give one another relationship advice and help.

Whether you need help breaking the ice, landing a first date or desperately quench advice when contemplating the next phase of a relationship, your wingman never fails to give you the help you need or the hard truth you may need to hear.

Last night, Mats Zuccarello engraved himself into the New York Rangers Wingman Hall of Fame.

The Stick

If you watched the Columbus Blue Jackets lose to the New York Rangers last night, you may have spotted a young high school couple holding a sign in the stands. The sign was held by Vinny Mutone and it read, “ZUCC! If you give me your stick, she’ll go to prom with me!!!”

After the game, Zucarrello did what any good wingman would do. He gave his buddy exactly what he needed to lock in a prom date. He even went a step further and left Vinny a short note on the tape of his stick with a signature. This true act of comradery proves that Mats Zuccarello is in a league of his own. Selflessly assisting any man in need is a noble act and one that should be recognized and duplicated by all; good job Zucc.

We all knew that Zucc could dish the puck and create opportunities for his teammates, but after last night, we now know he is not only a deadly hockey player, he is also one of the most clutch wingmen and match makers in the tri-state area.
