Kevin Klein

Previous Grade: C-

Kevin Klein has been battling more than the Rangers’ opponents this season; he’s been battling himself. The steady defensive play of seasons past has not been replicated by Klein this year, and his presence on the Rangers’ defense has been a detriment.

After being held without a goal through the team’s first 45 games, Klein has recorded three goals, including two in a win against Colorado. He has three assists since his last grading, to bring his season total to 11.

Over the course of this year, Klein has put himself in many situations that have made the media and fans question his hockey IQ. On too many occasions Klein has been caught flat-footed or blocking his goaltender on low percentage opportunities.

His name has been circulated in the Rangers’ trade rumor mill, but only time will tell if Jeff Gorton will look to move the declining veteran.
